Meet the CREW interns

Angelica Aguilar

Angelica is a Junior at Mission Collegiate High School. She is interested in nonfiction writing and investigative reporting. She hopes to study journalism and lead a career in which her identity as a Latina plays a significant role. Angelica wants to use storytelling to break stereotypes and fight for the voices of women of color.

Angelina Ayala

A prospective Biology major, Angelina intends to become a forensic anthropologist. She is an officer of the National Honors Society, a Phi Teta Kappa member, a Squad Leader for Alton Junior Officers. She is currently a Junior at Mission Collegiate High School and belongs to the Dual Enrollment Medical Science Academy.

Chelsie Barrientos

A senior at Mission Collegiate High School, Chelsie aims to become a software engineer once she finishes her undergraduate degree in Computer Science. She wants to create technology that helps the world run more efficiently and work towards minimizing the digital divide by advocating for access to technology for all people.

Elba Calvillo

Elba plans on pursuing a career as a sexual assault lawyer and represent rape victims. She wants to make this country a safer place for people by advocating for victims’ rights and persecuting those who commit sexual assaults. She is currently a Junior at Mission Collegiate High School.

Wendy De la Cruz Moncivais

Wendy expects to become a software engineer. She hopes to build software that makes quotidian life easier and help create a more sustainable future. Aside from computer science, her academic interests include science, math, and environmental science. She is a Senior at Mission Collegiate High School.

Brianna Garcia

Currently, Brianna is a Senior at Mission High Eagle T-STEM Academy. Her academic interests include biology, physics, anatomy and physiology. She wants to apply her interest in science towards a career in the medical field as a nurse and occupational therapist. Brianna is part of University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Upward Bound program and is team member of the Basketball and Track teams.

Kysela Garcia

A devoted member of her school’s Robotics team, Kysela plans to challenge the status quo in the STEM fields by becoming a biomedical engineer. She is currently a Senior at Mission High Eagle T-STEM Academy. She belongs to the Health Occupations Students of America organization and play in her school’s marching band.

Ana Gonzalez

A Senior at Mission High Eagle T-STEM Academy, Ana seeks to combine her love of art and computer science in her future career. She plans on becoming an animator and hopes to create films and cartoons that reinforce positive values and depict diverse human experiences. She has submitted her work for the SkillsUSA 3-D Visualization and Animation competition and is involved in her school’s art club. She also plays for Mission High’s marching band.

Brijida Luna
 
Brijida comes from a family of petroleum engineers. She plans on proudly becoming the first female engineer in her family. Brijida also fosters as passion for the arts. As a Senior at Mission High Eagle T-STEM Academy, she plays for Mission High’s marching band and belongs to the theater group. On her spare time, she is a freelance photographer.

Carina Martinez

Carina seeks to make this world a better place by pursuing a career that combines her passion for social entrepreneurship and environmental sustainability. She is president of the Junior Class Council at Mission Collegiate High School. While she spends a lot of her time training for her varsity swimming competitions, she also belongs to her school’s Literary Club and Match, Science, and Calculators U.I.L. She is a member of the National Honors Society.

Daisy Powers

Daisy is a Junior at Mission Collegiate High School. She feels equally passionate about creative writing and biology. Prior to joining C.R.E.W she was an intern at Microbiology lab at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, where she conducted SOD Assay kits to test the enzyme activity of the Arabidopsis Thaliana plant. She hopes that in the future, she can conduct extensive microbiology research.

Yatzziry Ruiz

Yatzziry plans to study Landscape Architecture and design environmentally-friendly public spaces. She is interested in the intersection of art and science and belongs to her school’s Culture Club and the National Honors Society. She is currently a Junior at Mission Collegiate High School.

Xitlaly Villanueva

Currently finishing her Senior year at Mission Collegiate High School, Xitlaly plans to pursue a career in the arts. She is President of the Business Professionals of America program, Vice-president and Publicity Coordinator of the National Honors Society, and Secretary of the Art Club. Her artwork was a State Qualifier for the Visual Arts Scholastic Event. She currently serves as the Manager for the volleyball team. In the future, she hopes that her career allows her to bring awareness and solutions to challenges faced by the Latinx community.

Odalis Villareal

Odalis is a Senior at Mission Collegiate High School. Her future includes a career in the medical field as a pediatrician. She belongs to the Medical Health Science, and Environmental clubs and is the Treasurer of the Business Professionals of America organization and the President of the National Honors Society.

Laura Zavala

Laura is passionate about understanding all aspects of human behavior and wants to double major in Psychology and Communications. She is President of the Fitness Club and member of the Business Professionals of America. As a representative of the School Health Advisory Council, she has lead school-wide campaigns to reduce the consumption of unhealthy foods. Laura works as an event assistant for Dream Events and is a seller at Ochoa’s Flea Market. She is currently a Junior at Mission Collegiate High School.
